Ripple Effects: The Power of Fiction and Visual Art

We are delighted to present the annual Whatcom READS Art Challenge, in collaboration with the Bellingham & Whatcom Libraries' Whatcom READS program. Local artists embarked on a journey inspired by this year's chosen book, No Two Persons by Erica Bauermeister. Applications to participate in the exhibition are available at alliedarts.org. We have a set of featured artists that invite you to extend the idea of interpretation from the book to the visual medium. They include: Laura Makiko Sharik, Pamela Whyman, Sheila Steinborn, and Kay Dee Powell.

Laura Makiko Sharik creates nature inspired abstract and semi-abstract watercolor and ink paintings with an emphasis on fluidity and flow.

Pamela Whyman specializes in portraiture, drawing, painting, mixed media, digital art and art instruction.

Kay Dee Powell paints all the time, primarily on silk and acrylic.

Sheila Steinborn paints Impressionistic oil paintings, landscapes and seascapes of the Pacific Northwest depicting our varied natural wonders done in a loose style with thick impasto paint giving them texture.

Allied Arts is a non-profit gallery, all proceeds from sales go towards supporting the arts in our community.
