Allied Arts hosts their annual partnership with the Bellingham and Whatcom Libraries Whatcom READS program, the Whatcom READS Art Challenge. Artists were tasked with reading this year’s book and creating art inspired by it. The featured book this year is Greenwood by Michael Christie. Artists are invited to create works influenced by the book.

Allied Arts of Whatcom County is excited to be collaborating again in March 2023 with the 14th Whatcom READS! event by hosting a community art exhibit inspired by the novel The Cold Millions by Spokane based author Jess Walter. Artwork inspired by the book will be on display during the month of March at the Allied Art of Whatcom County’s gallery in downtown Bellingham.
- Read the book The Cold Millions by Jess Walter. Books are available to borrow at any Bellingham Public Library and Whatcom County Library System or for purchase at Village Books.
- Create an art piece inspired by the book.
- Bring your piece and submission from to Allied Arts’ gallery on February 28th, or March 1st, 2023
– Forms can be filled out online, printed and brought with you, or filled out at the gallery.
Membership with Allied Arts of Whatcom County is not required to submit an art work (though welcome and encouraged). Works will not be juried. All mediums, genres, and skill levels are welcome to participate in the exhibit. Space is limited and items will be shown on a first come, first hung basis. Limit one piece per person. Entry forms can be obtained at the Allied Arts Gallery downtown (1418 Cornwall Ave) or online at www.alliedarts.org. Applications will include an explanation on how the book inspired your art.
