Allied Arts Whatcom Reads Challenge

Allied Arts hosts their annual partnership with the Bellingham and Whatcom Libraries Whatcom READS program, the Whatcom READS Art Challenge. Artists were tasked with reading this year’s book and creating art inspired by it. The featured book this year is Washington Black by Esi Edugyan. Artists are invited to create works influenced by the book.
Call to Artists for: Whatcom READS Art Challenge
Allied Arts of Whatcom County is excited to be collaborating again in March 2021 with Whatcom READS! by hosting a community art exhibit inspired by the novel Washington Black by Esi Edugyan. Artwork will be on display during the month of March at the Allied Art of Whatcom County’s gallery in downtown Bellingham.
1.) Read the book Washington Black by Esi Edugyan. Books are available to borrow at any Bellingham and Whatcom County Library or for purchase at Village Books.
2.) Create an art piece inspired by the book.
3.) Bring this submission form with your work on Tuesday or Wednesday, March 2 or 3, 2021.
Membership with Allied Arts of Whatcom County is not required to submit an art work. Works will not be juried. All mediums, genres, and skill levels are welcome to participate in the exhibit. Space is limited and items will be showed on a first come, first hung basis. Limit one piece per person. Entry forms can be obtained at the Allied Arts Gallery downtown (1418 Cornwall Ave) or online at www.alliedarts.org. Applications will include an explanation on how the book inspired your art.
