About Lisa

Since completing her degree at Western Washington University, having designed a concentration focused on Arts Education, Lisa is continuing her education at University of Washington working towards a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies. Having always been a nontraditional learner, using art in her own life has helped her figure things out and has been an essential tool for the communication of ideas; Lisa wants nothing more than to pass this insight on.

Some of Lisa’s favorite mediums include fiber arts, ceramics, jewelry making, printmaking, costuming and culinary arts. She has a passion for exploring the world using an artistic lens and make meaning through making art.

Teaching Experience

Having been an assistant teaching artist with Arts Corps for over 2 years, Lisa recently started teaching classes of her own through Allied Arts of Whatcom County. Most of her classes to date have been working with fiber arts but she is interested in designing classes with different mediums in the future. Themes of social-emotional development, identity mapping, empowerment through self-adornment, and deciphering the material world through an artist’s lens being central aspects of her work with people of all ages.

Teaching Philosophy

Lisa has been developing her skills as a Teaching Artist through her long standing work with youth and believes it is vital for the development of young minds that their curiosity to be sparked by exploring various abilities and interests. She believes learning through the arts keeps students engaged and hopes to instill habits of mind that encourage creative exploration and meaningful learning.
