January 29 at 3pm, Whatcom Symphony Orchestra Presents: Harmony from Discord at the Mount Baker Theatre This is the second in our Harmony from Discord series, continuing to explore works created in the face of oppression, emphasizing the power of music to transcend even the darkest of human experience. Last year’s inaugural concert was a huge success; you won’t want to miss this second in the series! We are delighted to be joined by the incredible violinist Jennifer Koh, who graces our stage for the third time. She will be playing Mendelssohn’s incomparable Violin Concerto, a perfect intersection of virtuosic talents. The concert also includes Ullman’s last piano sonata, reinterpreted for the voices of an orchestra; and a world premiere piece connecting the themes of these events to the sensibilities of contemporary classical music. Schulhoff’s Symphony closes the program, with the unique sounds of banjo and saxophone illustrating why he was often called the “Gershwin of Europe.”
