Apply to become an Allied Arts Board Member

Allied Arts of Whatcom County is strongly committed to community input and participation in the governing of our organization and the role that it plays in the arts of our region. We are currently looking for new community representatives to serve on our Board of Directors.

Allied Arts of Whatcom County Board of Directors provide detailed study resulting in decisions on important policy matters and programs. The assistance of this governing board helps the executive director and limited staff to oversee our programs. We are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers and interns that assist in focusing on the details of running our diverse programs; based on their specific interests and skill sets.

The Board of Directors meets six months a year (February, April, May, August, September, and October) on the third Tuesday of the month from 5:00-7:00 via Zoom or at the Allied Arts Gallery. There may be occasional changes to this schedule. Additional committee and planning meeting dates, times and topics are available on the agendas, which go out in board packets the Friday before the meeting.

This is a crucial time of change for Allied Arts. We are working with a number of organizations and leaders on developing a vision for the role of the Arts and Culture in the Downtown Bellingham core (through such projects as Pop up art activities, Creative Spaces and Art as Business Skill Share Sessions).

Additionally, Allied Arts of Whatcom County acts as a partnering or umbrella organization for many arts and culture related projects throughout the county. The primary ways in which the arts can play a role in our community include:

● Art as Healing

● Cultural Tourism

● Economic Development

● Community Development

● Promotion of local visual, literary and performing artists and their art

Some of the larger projects we are currently working on include:

● Whatcom Cultural Arts Festival: One Weekend in March, Holiday Festival in November and December as well as RARE: Recycled Arts Resource Expo in April.

● AARTS: Allied Arts Recycled Art Thrift Store

● Whatcom County Arts and Cultural Guide

● One of the largest arts-in-the-schools coalitions in the state of Washington.

The Board of Directors is comprised of five to nine Whatcom County residents who maintain terms consisting of two years. They represent the 500+ organization membership as well as the community we serve.

We would be delighted if you could attend one of our board meetings to determine if you would be interested in helping us to lead Allied Arts through this exciting time of change. If you would like to talk with our additional staff or board members we would be happy to assist you.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration; and please let me know if you have any additional questions that I can personally answer more for you in greater detail.

Kind regards,

Kelly Hart

Executive Director
