Sculpture Northwest
If you know the public sculpture collections in New York City’s Central Park, Chicago's Daley Plaza, the Embarcadero in San Francisco, or Seattle’s Olympic Sculpture Park, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see in Northwest Washington, works by such famous sculptors as Noguchi, Caro, Serra, Maki, diSuvero, Otterness, Pepper, Rickey, Sebastian and many others.
In Northwest Washington you’ll find strong support for art in public places. The City of Bellingham has been purchasing and placing works throughout the city for over 40 years. Bellingham’s Big Rock Garden Park sculpture garden is stunningly beautiful with its hundreds of varieties of rhododendrons and azaleas, scores of varieties of Japanese Maples, and over 35 permanent works by distinguished international and local artists.
At Western Washington University integrated with campus buildings, quadrangles, lawns, and playing fields you’ll find a similarly outstanding outdoor sculpture collection.
Add in the new Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building, with national and international exhibits, the City of Ferndale’s Riverside Sculpture Walk, and stunning private sculpture gardens. These are the art treasures you’ll find with your visit to Whatcom County and Northwest Washington.
