2010 Juried Artist Series: Remembrances

September 3rd thru 25th, 2010

Opening Reception: Friday, Septemer 3rd, 6pm - 10pm
Gallery Hours: Monday thru Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday 12 to 5pm

The Allied Arts 2010 Juried Artist series continues with "Remembrances” featuring Ann Chaikin and Jeanne Levasseur. The public is invited to the opening night celebration at the Allied Arts Gallery and the Downtown Art Walk: Friday September 3rd, from 6pm to 10pm. There will be an Exhibit Walk-Thru with the artists from 6pm to 7pm on opening night.

Both the artists in this show depict moments and places frozen in time and convey the emotions of these places through oil paint and photography

Ann Chaikin’s work shown will consist of both photographs and paintings of the vacant Georgia Pacific site here on the Bellingham waterfront. Ann has been a photographer most of her life and many of her oil paintings come from the photographs she has taken. She decided to put together this body of work because of the importance of the Georgia Pacific plant in the history of Bellingham and its new role as a waterfront area of town that is still evolving.

Many of Jeanne Levasseur’s oil paintings are an internal reflection, depicting a scene or a moment in time, of the places she has traveled. She is particularly inspired and awed by the striking terrain as well as the tumultuous and temperamental skies of the Pacific Northwest. When beginning a painting, she initially relies on "plein-air”, photographs and memory, but shortly thereafter, spontaneity and intuition take over to become integral components of the process.

In conjunction with this show, Allied Arts’ new Inside the Box Series will feature work from Karin Mueller. Karin creates mixed media two and three dimensional works using found objects to create whimsical home décor items.

This show will run from September 3rd to 24th. Allied Arts is a non-profit gallery, proceeds from sales go to support the arts in our community.
