2010 Juried Artist Series: Femme Fatale
August 6th thru 28th, 2010
Opening Reception: Friday, August 6th, 6pm - 10pm
Gallery Hours: Monday thru Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday 12 to 5pm
The Allied Arts 2010 Juried Artist series continues with "Femme
Fatale” featuring Katy Frank, Carmen Moise, Linda Hughes, and Kay
Little. The public is invited to the opening night celebration at the
Allied Arts Gallery and the Downtown Art Walk: Friday August 6th, from
6pm to 10pm. There will be an Exhibit Walk-Thru with the artist from 6pm
to 7pm on opening night.
The show is titled after the personalities of these wonderful female
artists; beautiful, strong and determined! These personalities are
reflected in their work, which when together makes for an exciting and
eclectic show of different media and subject matter.
Katy Frank creates collage compositions using content and images from
high fashion magazines. Figures wear clothing made unrealistic
materials - cut-out images of marble or fireworks - and are set against
fantastical backdrops where ferns grow from the sky or jumbo flowers.
Katy creates complex worlds where there is no shortage of stimulations -
a world that anyone can escape to for as long as they like.
Carmen Moise’s love affair with photography started in high school
and has continued into her adulthood. She photographs flowers and plants
capturing the fragility and beauty of each subject. Carmen’s still life
images are the result of in depth exploration and experimentation, to
hopefully divulge both beauty and spirit.
Linda Hughes’ has developed a style of colorful embellishment for her
hand thrown pottery which is nothing short of unique. Surfaces of pots
are decorated with stripes, checks, or a series of interlocking circles
which are surrounded by or filled in with an array of colorful flowers
or leaves. Linda’s pieces are meant to be picked up, fondled and used on
a daily basis and help their users dispel the grey months we endure in
the Pacific Northwest.
Kay Little’s paintings are a result of using color, form and
perspective to create a world of contradiction and allusion. She uses
distortion of perspective to keep the viewer’s eye searching to
understand the form. Kay’s goal is to hint at a form rather than
literally reproducing it which allows the viewer to bring their own
interpretation to the canvas.
In conjunction with this show, Allied Arts is introducing their new
Inside the Box Series, an opportunity for artists to show smaller more
affordable works inside our small jewelry cases here in the Allied Arts
Gallery. Inside the box this month is glass artist Christine Grinstead.
Her kiln fired glass pieces layer colors to add dimension and depth to
her original usable pieces.
This show will run from August 6th to 28th. Allied Arts is a
non-profit gallery, proceeds from sales go to support the arts in our
community.
